It is always a top concern when talking about toilet cleaners and cleaning. So many hacks, options are present out there but are they all suitable for toilet ceramic?

So many homeowners make the mistake of- choosing the right toilet cleaner (specifically while it is an acid) and end up with nothing but damage to the porcelain wall.

I was tricked into doing the same thing in the past with bleach in the toilet and damaged almost all seals, and I don’t think you want to repeat the likewise.

What Does Muriatic Acid Do to The Toilet?

Muriatic Acid is so known cleaner for the toilet. Muriatic Acid, aka Hydrogen Chloride, is a corrosive- strong acid generally used in cleaning pool and toilet stains.

Although Muriatic Acid is HCl, meaning Hydrogen Chloride, it is not as pure and concentrated as HCl.

In one word, a Muriatic Acid is a dilute form of Hydrogen Chloride.

Muriatic Acid is less toxic and removes molds, hard water stains, rings, etc.

It is very important never to mix any acid with Muriatic Acid. It makes explosive effects.

How to Use Muriatic Acid To Clean Toilet Jets

Muriatic Acid will be a great choice for clean toilet jets and calcium lime buildup. To use Muriatic Acid as toilet Jets cleaner need some precaution first.

Precaution List

1. Well ventilate the toilet 
2. Keep pets and other members away from the toilet under process.
3. Use Heavy-duty protection gloves and a Respirator. 
4. Put Goggle, so it protects the eye.

Items you need for the process

1. Good Quality Muriatic Acid (From Amazon)
2. Funnel
3. Baking Soda (From Amazon)
4. Bucket
5. Toilet Brush
6. Tissue paper or Cotton 
7. Duct Tape

Start the Process

Step1- Turn off the toilet water supply 

At the very first, turn off the water supply line to the toilet.

Step2- Bucket and water

Take a bucket and fill it with normal water. Pour the water as speedily as you can, so the water flush itself. ( don’t splash yourself)

Step3- Put safety measures

Put the heavy-duty gloves, wear protective goggles, and put respirator to safe from the Muriatic Acid.

Step4- Dilution of the Acid

Take a bucket of water about above the half. Put Muriatic Acid in one part. Therefore the dilution should become 10:1 ratio water & Muriatic Acid. 

Step5- Pour into The Bowl

Pour the whole mixture into the bowl but very slowly, so the dilution does not flush away. 

Slowly pour all the mixture of Muriatic Acid and make sure it covers all stains, lime build-up.

Step6- Stick the wall

Take the bucket again and slowly pour muriatic Acid on it then take some tissue or Cotton. Wet well, so the tissues absorb the Acid.

After that, put all the stuff and adhere to the affected areas for better results.

Step7- Time for Muriatic Acid to clean toilet jets

Take the duct tape and stick all the siphon holes. Therefore, no water release from the siphon jets.

Put one cup of muriatic Acid into the toilet tank and fill- valve.

With help of the funnel, pour a few amounts of Muriatic Acid into the fill tube as well and pull the flush handle half.

Doing this step, the water mixture runs to the bowl but will be stuck for the duct tape at the opening of the jets.

This way, the inner part of the jets can be clean- Muriatic Acid breaks down all minerals deposits.

Step8- Need some rest and work

This process needs 2 hours for an amazing result, in between you can’t use the toilet and don’t off the vent.

Every 30 minutes later, come and brush the whole wall, so the breakdown process ends quickly.

Step9- Most important before flush

After 2 hours later, you may see the water become cloudy.

Take off all duct tape, carefully water runs from there.

Now you have an Acid mixture of water in your toilet, and -this is going to be toxic if you flush it like that.

So, what do you do? Neutralize the Acid. YES. Neutralize the Acid is the most significant part of the process. 

Otherwise, this toxin water either goes into the river or septic tank. Not, an eco-friendly thing.

So use baking soda. Pour baking soda all over the Acid, you can see tons of bubbles will produce. Pour baking soda until the bubble stops producing.

While the Bubble-production will stop is an indication of Acid neutralization.

Then flush it off.

Turn on the water supply and flush two to three times. The advantage of using Muriatic Acid it can clear clog too.

This way, you’ll get a fantastic effective result, your toilet will unblock, stains have gone. 

Note– Don’t put too much baking soda. Otherwise, it becomes overflow.

Hydrochloric Acid Toilet Cleaner Formulation

• HCL (Hydrochloric Acid)- 20%
• Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid -2%
• Phosphoric Acid-5%
• Citric Acid- 3%
• Color- acid blue
• Water- 67%-70%
• Acid Thickener- 3%

Will Muriatic Acid Remove Calcium Deposits?

Yes. Muriatic Acid effectively will remove any calcium Deposits. Even work on iron rust also. Just make a 10:1 ratio solution of Muriatic Acid and Water. Muriatic acid is good for slow flushing toilets also.

Spread all over the affected Calcium deposits and stand for 2 hours, every 30 minutes alter the brush with the toilet brush.

Add baking soda to neutralize the Acid, and flush thoroughly.

Alternative Best Acid For Toilet Cleaning

Except for Muriatic Acid, there are few acid cleaners available. These are safe for toilets, septic tanks, and eco-friendly.

1. Zep Acidic Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Deodorizing formula sticks to surfaces to exclude calcium build-up, rust, soil build-up, and other stubborn stains.

Just apply under the rim, affected areas, and wait for 5 minutes. Brush off, then rinse thoroughly.
